Saving at the Grocery Store
I will admit I do not like paying full price for items. I am often amazed at how much the full price is on items. Wow, someone must be willing to pay a lot more for food than I am. I have six in my family and I like to keep my money and not spend it all on food. Here are some ways to save on food.
1. Look for what is on sale. Ads come in the mail so by checking the mail and looking for a minute or less I can see if a store is worth my time and money. If a store has items on sale I need or will need soon I consider shopping there.
2. Meal Planning. I do not do well at sticking by a strict meal plan but I do make sure I have meals in the home for the week. The better you plan the more likely you are to have all the ingredients you need with the least amount of shopping trips.
3. Coupons. Why not let someone else pay for most of your groceries? All it takes is finding a piece of paper and keeping track of it until you give it to the cashier with the corresponding item.
4. Who do you shop with and for? Those I shop with may want different items than I do. I plan ahead and teach my children that they can ask for things but not put them in the cart. I plan ahead and buy the treats I know my family will want when they are a good deal not full price and we are out. I think it saves money and makes life easier to have convenience and requested foods on hand.
5. Rebates. By looking around I have found rebates on almost everything we eat.
6. Time the market. If possible shop when the store is not crowded. With less people around I can think better and so can the cashier. It seems that there are less mistakes when less people are at the store. The mistakes that happen can me fixed easier too.
7. Budget How much are you willing to spend on groceries? I like using cash. I do not have to remember how much I spent and I seem to spend less.
Focus on how much money is going out. This helps reduce the urge to buy lots because it is on sale.
8. Questions. When buying items ask yourself:
Do I need it?
Can I buy it later for less?
Is it really worth this price?
Can something else do the same thing better.
9. Can it be free? Can you trade someone for something? Can you find a free sample? Does someone what to get rid of it? Can I buy it with coupons, sales, and rebates to make it free or even earn money?
It can actually be fun seeing how much you can save. I like combining these tips. For example I buy groceries when they are on sale, there is a coupon (if possible), and there is a rebate (if possible).
This website will have ways to be more economical and save you time.
